Watch and See God's Word

posted Feb 5, 2016, 6:41 PM by Stephen Fox

Kids today are very much into technology. A  study was presented at the Pediatric Academic Societies annual meeting showed that by age 2, most kids have used mobile devices.  How often do the the boys and girls in your life use mobile devices? Wouldn't it be great for children to use technology to study God's Word? Child Evangelism Fellowship now has developed several ways for kids to use technology to study and learn His Word.

And the winner is......

Friday May 11, 2012 the recipient of the Ruth Johnson Lifetime Legacy Award for this year was announced-- Dr. Jay C. Fernlund. We are honored to give this year's award to Dr. Fernlund.

Jay Fernlund grew up in the home of an evangelist who also served as the Sunday School state missionary for Swedish Baptist Churches in Minnesota. On the day Jay was born, his father came to the hospital directly from his work of directing a large Vacation Bible School in Minneapolis.

After Jay committed his life to Christ at age 15, he taught junior age Sunday School at his home church in Boston. During this time he also lead a Bible club called Children's Haven in the inner city. Jay attended Bible college in Minnesota. While attending school, Jay taught in a weekly evangelistic club in his church home, at the same church where his father had directed VBS.

In his years as a senior pastor, Jay gave children's messages and object lessons in the service when no children's church was available. Many who attended told him they would remember his children's messages long after they forgot his sermons.

After retiring from the teaching staff at Moody Bible Institute, Jay and his wife Ethel hosted a 5-Day club at there home were 14 attended and some received Christ. As pastor of Faith Bible Church, in Joliet, IL, Jay encouraged the church to become more a part of CEF and become part of the ADOPT - A- School program. After much decision, Faith Bible did adopt a school in Joliet. Jay has served as a teacher at the GNC at this Joliet school  since the church adopted the school 3 years ago.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Jay Fernlund.

This summer CEF of Illinois is sending a team to Trinidad to assist CEF of Trinidad with summer ministry.  The team consists of 14 people, adults and teens. Two of this team are from Three Rivers Chapter. Karissa VanBuskirk and Demoriya Phillips. Both of these young ladies have served as summer missionaries in our chapter for two summers and have been very helpful in other areas of the chapter's ministry such as the Annual Easter Egg Extravaganza and after school Good News Clubs. Karissa and Demoriya have also both completed Teaching Children Effectively Level 1.  Karissa, Demoriya, and the other members of the team will be leaving July 13th and will return July 31st. Both of Will County ladies are very excited to be able to go and share of God's love to the children of Trinidad. While there, the CEF of Illinois team will be teaching 5-Day Clubs, day camps, and VBSs.

Karissa and Demoriya are now in the process of raising the funds to go on this missions trip ($2000 each). Please pray for them that God will bring in the funds they need and that God will work in them and through them during this trip.

The Yellow School Bus

posted Aug 16, 2011, 11:27 AM by Stephen Fox

As the yellow school bus passes my way,
Only twenty percent of the chilldren will invite Jesus into their hearts one day.
How many of them will get sidetracked and do their own thing?
Will they be in church every time the church bell rings?
To think that eighty percent of these children riding the bus,
Will pass through life going from dust to dust.
Heaven for all eternity, will never be their home,
Hell will be calling where they'll be all alone.
Child Evangelism reaches these lost children in a special way,
Teaching with the Wordless book to share Jesus and pray.

Summer Missionary sows seeds and plants a tree!

posted Aug 11, 2011, 1:10 PM by Stephen Fox

As as summer missionary, Rebecca Stolberg has lots of experience sharing God's Word and "sowing seeds" of grace into the lives of children all accross the chapter area. Rebecca has such a heart to reach the next generation for the Lord. After spending many warm summer days on the grounds of the chapter, Rebecca saw a need for more shade in our backyard. She approached us with an idea to plant a tree in the yard so that one day we can have outdoor clubs under the shade of this tree. After receiving approval, Rebecca purchased, planted, and landscaped the tree. In several years we will see children hearing God's Word under this now 'little' tree. So thanks Rebecca for planting a tree for the next generation of children to sit under and hear God's Word.
