Friday May 11, 2012 the recipient of the Ruth Johnson Lifetime Legacy Award for this year was announced-- Dr. Jay C. Fernlund. We are honored to give this year's award to Dr. Fernlund.

Jay Fernlund grew up in the home of an evangelist who also served as the Sunday School state missionary for Swedish Baptist Churches in Minnesota. On the day Jay was born, his father came to the hospital directly from his work of directing a large Vacation Bible School in Minneapolis.

After Jay committed his life to Christ at age 15, he taught junior age Sunday School at his home church in Boston. During this time he also lead a Bible club called Children's Haven in the inner city. Jay attended Bible college in Minnesota. While attending school, Jay taught in a weekly evangelistic club in his church home, at the same church where his father had directed VBS.

In his years as a senior pastor, Jay gave children's messages and object lessons in the service when no children's church was available. Many who attended told him they would remember his children's messages long after they forgot his sermons.

After retiring from the teaching staff at Moody Bible Institute, Jay and his wife Ethel hosted a 5-Day club at there home were 14 attended and some received Christ. As pastor of Faith Bible Church, in Joliet, IL, Jay encouraged the church to become more a part of CEF and become part of the ADOPT - A- School program. After much decision, Faith Bible did adopt a school in Joliet. Jay has served as a teacher at the GNC at this Joliet school  since the church adopted the school 3 years ago.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Jay Fernlund.
